Genda Phool singer Rekha Bhardwaj enthralls Bengaluru audience

Cold night and the pleasantly blowing winds set the atmosphere right for the Sufi night. While the Performer of the night enjoyed the Bengaluru weather amidst the bad traffic jams, we waited for her at the Jayamahal Palace. Though, I must admit it was not a long wait. Iska group finally arrived. Rekha Bhardwaj who has sung songs like ‘Genda Phool’ for Delhi-6, ‘Tere Ishq mein’ for Kaminey was the performer of the night at the event organized by the Times of India Crest edition on Friday 18th Dec. This was her first perfomance in Bengaluru and the audience was in full attendance to cheer this immensely talented singer.
Rekha started the event with the song ‘ Tere Ishq mein’ from the film Kaminey. Rekha then mesmerized the audience with Sufi songs ‘Iska Iska Allah hu’ followed by ‘Teri razaa meri razaa’. Beautiful lyrics, topped with the soulful voice of Rekha was enough to take me into a state of Trance. While she was singing ‘Raat ki Jogan’, I was wondering who would have penned these songs. Between the songs, she mentioned that these poems were written by Gulzar Sahab and that she feels connected with the almighty through these songs.
After the individual performances by the musicians, Rekha was back on stage after a short break with Bollywood numbers. Audience cheered as she sang Genda phool. Namak Isha ka from Omkara was another number that exhilarated us. The evening ended with another hit number ‘Raat ke dhai baje’ from the film Kaminey. Needles to say, Bengaluru audience enjoyed every bit of it.
